Its public school district, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, is the second largest school system in North Carolina with nearly 150,000 students enrolled at its 168 schools. College and Prep for the Real World

Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools offer plenty of programs to ensure that students are ready for college and the post-secondary school world. Almost all high schools offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses and Career & College Promise (CCP) courses. In fact, Charlotte students are more likely to be enrolled in these courses than other students in North Carolina. Charlotte is also preparing its students for the digital age; on average, each student has access to their own device in school. This can include anything from laptops to iPads, which can contribute to student success.

Information About Getting to School

After you've picked the best school, you can learn where the nearest bus stops are and when each school starts. With so many schools, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district relies on later start times to allow one bus to serve multiple schools.

With the exception of Cato Middle College High School (which starts at 11:20 AM), Charlotte's public schools start classes between 7:15 AM and 9:15 AM, dismissing in the early to mid-afternoon. You can view a list of start and end times by school here.

Sports

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district offers sports teams at both the middle and high school levels. Sports offered include, but are not limited to: football, baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, golf, and tennis.
